Do I have to Freeze my hops?

Its a good idea at home but more important is keeping them vacuum sealed.

I have always held this view and Mashematics hops are stored in vacuum sealed oxygen and light barrier bags at temperatures nearing zero.

Indeed properly vaccuum sealed (and in oxygen barrier bags) hops at room temperature will oxidise less than frozen improperly sealed hops.

Here is what Claude AI has to say

Frozen-but-exposed-to-oxygen causes more oxidation, by a wide margin.
Here’s why: hop oxidation is an oxygen-driven chemical reaction (alpha acids and hop oils degrading via oxidation). Without O2 present, that reaction has almost nothing to work with — so a vacuum-sealed oxygen-barrier bag at room temp will actually preserve hop quality far better than frozen pellets sitting in an oxygen-permeable or opened package.
Temperature only affects the rate of oxidation, not whether it happens. Cold slows the reaction somewhat, but if oxygen keeps being supplied, oxidation grinds on continuously — freezing just buys you a bit of time, it doesn’t stop it.
Sure AI may not be perfect but this is a far better answer than “Never had any complaints”
