Also known as Canterbury Hops by some, although others will dispute this fact. East Kent Goldings gracefully defines the English Pale Ales and Ales produced by the region, it is quintessentially English.
East Kent Golding Hops thrives for aroma additions any time throughout the boil or during dry hopping. This variety has an alpha acid rating of 4.5%-6.5% keeping its bitterness on the low side in beer. It is often complimented with Fuggle Hops in English brew recipes. The aroma is sweet-tempered, savory, and affable. This hops has scents of sweet citrus fruits, and redolence of nectarous flowers. It has relatively high humulene oil content, and this is preserved by avoiding early kettle additions.
East Kent Golding hops produces large cones that are loose. Harvesting is not as easy as working with compact cones, and means that timing becomes more crucial. It is actually a fairly low producing plant, and has susceptibility to Downy Mildew and Hop Mosaic Virus, making it not the farmers dream.
